Overview

The firm KBK Engineers has been operating as Civil and Structural Engineers since 1968 and has developed into a medium-sized practice with offices in Pretoria and Secunda (South Africa). Each office has at least one resident Director. Clients are offered a comprehensive service covering a wide range of civil and structural engineering disciplines including feasibility studies, planning, design, construction and financial management of projects.

Since the firm's inception, it has been our objective to deliver high quality work and service to our clients, in a responsible manner and with due reference to the latest technological developments. The firm has purposefully been developed to a size and level of service at which the senior directors are still available to be involved in actual planning and design work, rather than to be tied up in management and administration. Any expert assistance of a nature not available within the firm is called in as and when necessary to ensure that the highest levels of service are maintained throughout.

Various public and private clients have appointed the firm to design and manage projects of varying sizes, some of which have been of a magnitude normally entrusted to larger firms. We have been able to complete and implement these large projects effectively and within the given time frames due to the advanced levels of computerisation of both our design and draughting work, as well as our administration.

As far as financial fee turnover is concerned, more than 50% of our previous projects have been roads related.

MANAGEMENT AND OWNERSHIP

The firm KBK is owned and managed by four Directors, each with his own particular experience, training and field of interest (see Curricula Vitae). Each project is run under the personal guidance of one of the directors, assisted by other members of staff.

PERSONNEL AND EQUIPMENT

KBK is highly computerized in its design and draughting systems and has at its disposal more than 25 personal computers and 18 Caddie CAD draughting stations. The company makes use of the most recent design software packages such as the Robot finite element analysis program for complicated structure analysis, Cards, Cardd and Cats road design software packages. Every director, engineer and technical staff member has a computer (work station) and all the necessary software at his or her disposal. A detail plotter is available for every office, so as to ensure the most timely and cost-effective completion of designs.

The directors are assisted by a trained staff of more than 30 people comprising engineers, technicians, technical assistants, clerks of works, draughtsmen and administration staff of both sexes and all races. Refer to our Personnel page for a full list of our staff.
